All of the resort scenes in Some Like It Hot were filmed on location at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. Billy Wilder apparently chose this location because Marilyn Monroe was having ongoing personal problems and could not be relied on to arrive on a set. This way she could live in the hotel and not have to be transported.
